About this artwork
This artwork is about re-imagining. In my friend's garden was an old, concrete fountain. In the centre, stood the statue Spring. Beneath the statue, floating on the cloudy, algae laced water, was an abundance of tangled, floating lilypads. I was taken with the shapes and patterns and envisioned painting them in magical hues - in this case a rich ruby and vibrant llime green.
This one-of-a-kind artwork from Germany combines photography and painting.… Treating my photograph as the canvas, I repainted the picture by hand digitally, in layers to achieve washes, and enlarging the image to paint pixel by pixel where detail required. Also available in an edition size of 30" x 20"

Alice Gur-Arie is an award nominated, self taught UK based photographer / painter who has exhibited in England and France. Inspired by nature, Gur-Arie takes photographs around the world and repaints them by hand digitally. From bold, saturated colours to softly muted tones, Gur-Arie interprets the landscapes, seascapes and wildlife from her travels into richly textured compositions that are at once familiar yet foreign, and distinctive abstract art that compels the viewer to take a closer look.
