About this artwork
Raíz Silenciosa es un homenaje visual a la identidad afrodescendiente y a la memoria silenciada de generaciones que han cargado con el peso de la migración, la exclusión y la resistencia. La figura femenina aparece sin rostro definido, convirtiéndose en símbolo universal de las vidas anónimas que han sido despojadas de representación, pero que sostienen su dignidad en el silencio.
El cabello afro se transforma aquí en una arquitectura natural, un… árbol de raíces visibles que contrasta con el fondo azul, aludiendo al cielo y a la esperanza de un futuro sin fronteras ni discriminación. La textura del rostro, con sus marcas y desgastes, representa las huellas del tiempo, la resiliencia y la construcción constante del ser.
La obra invita a reflexionar sobre la belleza de las raíces, la historia no contada y la fortaleza interior de quienes, a pesar de las cicatrices, siguen habitando su cuerpo como un territorio de resistencia.

Alid Gerboles is a self-taught Cuban painter and digital artist with a background in the humanities, who has dedicated over a decade to abstract and symbolic art. He employs mixed media on canvas—acrylic, oil, charcoal, and graphite—fusing gestural expression, texture, layers, and human figures transformed into symbols, representing emotional maps. His style explores fragility and the ancestral in dialogue with the contemporary, using abstraction to address themes of identity, migration, and memory. His works summon introspection and silence, inviting us to confront the origin and resilience of the human spirit.
