Never Perfect Coastline is a large-scale diptych created with acrylic, ink, and colored paper pulp on handmade paper mounted to canvas. Inspired by shifting coastlines, erosion patterns, waterways, and the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world, the work explores themes of transformation, impermanence, and interconnected systems.
Layered fields of muted color and organic contours evoke aerial landscapes, geological formations,… and bodily topographies simultaneously. The separation between the two panels creates a visual tension that suggests both division and continuity — reflecting the ever-changing boundaries found throughout nature.
The handmade paper surface preserves the tactile evidence of process and material transformation, reinforcing the work’s connection to sustainability, environmental awareness, and the beauty found within imperfect natural forms.
Amy Vialpando, a painter, sculptor, and visual artist with a BFA in Design from the University of Wyoming, works with pen and ink, paint, plaster, and especially richly textured handmade paper crafted from recycled materials. Her style marries organic abstraction with intricate detail, reflecting a commitment to environmentally conscious techniques. Each of her pieces invites viewers into a space of wonder and spiritual connection, illuminating the beauty and complexity of the natural world with heartfelt reverence.
