About this artwork
"Bachelor party", a 2020 work by Andrea Benetti, made with oil and oxides on bas-relief with a plaster background on canvas (60 x 80 cm), reflects his Neorupestre stylistic code. The abstract shapes and engraved symbols, enriched by the materiality of the oxides, recall primordial artistic expressions. The title, unusual for his production, opens to a more personal and contemporary interpretation, suggesting a celebration or a rite of passage, which,… in the context of Benetti's art, could allude to an initiation or a moment of spiritual transformation, connecting the ancestral to the modern.
With this collection, Andrea Benetti intends to highlight how abstract painting, at least in its embryonic form, has its roots in the origins of our history, dating back to prehistoric cave paintings. In these primitive works, in fact, the use of symbols and chromatic forms that anticipated the fundamental principles of abstractionism already emerged.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
Andrea Benetti is the author of the Manifesto of Neo-Rock Art, presented at the 53rd Venice Biennale. His works have been acquired by international art collections and museums (United Nations, Vatican, Quirinale, Chamber of Deputies, etc.). Several universities have conducted graduate research on his art. He has collaborated with many universities to organize exhibitions and seminars on Neo-Rock Painting (Universities of Bari, Bergamo, Bologna, Ferrara, Johns Hopkins University, Lecce, Messina, Roma Tre, and Venice). In 2020, he won the "Nettuno d'Oro" Award from the city of Bologna. His biography appears in major encyclopedias, including Treccani, De Agostini, and WikiArt, and is translated into 45 languages on Wikipedia.
