About this artwork
The work Cameo (2020), made with oil and oxides on bas-relief with a plaster background on canvas, stands out for its strong symbolic and archaic charge. The engraved and painted shapes emerge decisively from the surface, creating a composition that recalls cave paintings, reinterpreted in a contemporary way. The background, treated with oxides, returns a living material, almost dug by time, which acts as a backdrop to stylized figures and geometric… signs.
In the center stands a totemic figure, surrounded by curvilinear elements and symbols such as circles and stars, which suggest a universal narrative linked to the origins of man. The black lines mark the boundaries of the shapes and guide the gaze in a fluid, almost ritualistic visual path. The colors - soft but decisive - alternate warm and cold tones in a balance that reinforces the sense of primordial harmony. With Cameo, Andrea Benetti reaffirms the profound bond between art and memory, between original gesture and contemporary thought.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
