About this artwork
In Migrations, Andrea Benetti draws on the primordial language of rock art to investigate a theme of extraordinary topicality and universality: the movement of peoples, the exodus of civilizations, the path of man through space and time. On a surface that evokes the skin of history – wrinkled, stratified, marked by time – archetypal signs, spirals, arrows, anthropomorphic figures and stylized animals emerge, chasing and overlapping each other in… an ancestral dance.
The work, full of symbolism, tells of travel as an existential necessity, as an impulse inscribed in the DNA of humanity. The stylized figures, drawn with a decisive yet evocative stroke, seem to move on an ideal map, guided by trajectories that recall migratory routes or escape routes. The technique, which mixes the aesthetics of prehistoric paintings with a contemporary approach, underlines the bridge that the artist builds between the distant past and the present.
« The painting of the future was born in caves, since art has always been the most fascinating medium with which matter depicts the spirit. »
