About this artwork
The Golden Valley
Oil on canvas – four parts, framed in a custom design
This work emerged from silence – painted as a single image, conceived as a sweeping breath unfolding across four canvases. Like a gaze slowly wandering across a landscape, the "Golden Valley" opens from left to right, speaking of light, vastness, and the quiet promise of a new day. The warm gold of the fields lies like a fleeting moment between heaven and earth. It is that… light which exists only briefly – when the sun is low and bathes the landscape in a gentle glow.
The four canvases together form a cohesive landscape – yet each carries its own moment, its own breath. The custom-made frame unites them into a single entity and simultaneously allows the image to float. The result is a panorama that guides the eye without holding it captive.
Andreas Hornbogen works primarily with oil painting and woodcut, drawing on his solid training as a master student and a deep connection to traditional craftsmanship. He combines influences from realism, impressionism, expressionism, and surrealism with constantly shifting perspectives and light-filled compositions. In his works, he interweaves figurative and abstract elements to explore layers of memory, time, and existence. His art resonates through its poetic stillness, existential fragility, and the palpable struggle for balance between humanity, nature, and society.
