About this artwork
For me, this work is not a specific place, but an inner state. It speaks of transitions – of hesitating before the rain, of pausing when something changes. I didn't just see the colors, I felt them: the cool blue of the distance, the heavy gray of the sky, and that warm, almost luminous green that defies the shadow.
When painting, I was less concerned with depicting the landscape than with its mood, its whispers. Every brushstroke follows the attempt… to make movement visible – the drifting of the clouds, the caress of the wind across the field, the barely audible promise of departure.
Perhaps this image contains exactly what motivates me to paint again and again: the moment in between, in which nothing is certain and yet everything is already palpable.
Andreas Hornbogen works primarily with oil painting and woodcut, drawing on his solid training as a master student and a deep connection to traditional craftsmanship. He combines influences from realism, impressionism, expressionism, and surrealism with constantly shifting perspectives and light-filled compositions. In his works, he interweaves figurative and abstract elements to explore layers of memory, time, and existence. His art resonates through its poetic stillness, existential fragility, and the palpable struggle for balance between humanity, nature, and society.
