About this artwork
Cassandra is a figure in Greek mythology. The god Apollo gave her the gift of prophecy because of her beauty. However, when she rejected his attempts to seduce her, he cursed her so that no one would believe her prophecies. Therefore, in ancient mythology she is considered a tragic heroine who always foresaw disaster but was never heard. I was interested in the timeless, fateful and human aspect of her.
The color woodcut is created by printing several… plates (linden wood or linden plywood) on top of each other using several colors. Each color is a printing process. Only with the last color does the image unfold its effect. The process takes several months. The work was printed with letterpress inks (oil paints) on a knee lever press. Only after printing are the canvases mounted on a stretcher frame. The work originally dates from 2012 and was revised by me again in 2022.

Andreas Kramer is an experienced painter and printmaker based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Australia, England, Italy, Brazil, and Switzerland.
Fascinated by the permanent and mysterious nature of our existence, his pieces search for the essential and "signs of life". Kramer describes his compositions as being abstract, figurative, and atmostpheric, a consequence of the meeting of intuition and thoughts.
