About this artwork
The age-old question- what is the meaning of Life and what is one's purpose here?
The Tree of Life range is about one’s spiritual path in life and so is very personal to every viewer. What does the symbolism mean to them, can they relate to any of the imagery? It’s important for a viewer to make what they want of it. Some people say this range has a medieval flavour harking back to a bygone era or a Lord of the Rings feel, some say it’s romantic… and nostalgic. There is a monastery on top of the hill and on another hill further away a castle…..it could mean the balance between material things and one’s values & beliefs. The long winding paths symbolise one’s journey along the way. ….to enlightenment and love.💕Mountains, waterfalls, rivers and trees are often associated with a nurturing Mother Nature providing you with energy, comfort and love.
This painting is the last in the current range of 'Tree of Life' paintings which all had different colour blossoms on the trees.
Andrew Cooper is a self-taught artist born in Cape Town, whose work blends semi-realism with a strong sense of mysticism. His paintings are known for their bold use of colour, attention to light, depth and scale, and for creating a distinctive mood and atmosphere. Working from memory and his own photographs, he seeks to capture the essence of a place rather than a literal representation.
Painting professionally since 1987, Andrew began with watercolours before transitioning to acrylics. Deeply inspired by the landscapes of the Western Cape—its mountains, coastlines, rivers, winelands and semi-desert—nature remains the core subject of his work. Alongside these landscapes, his more mystical paintings explore imagination, mythology and the spiritual side of life.
Grounded and humble by nature, his approach to painting is sincere and unpretentious, inviting viewers to step into expansive, immersive scenes shaped by both observation and intuition.
