About this artwork
This is the third painting I did as a series landscapes of vineyards for an exhibition at a local winery. I wanted to capture the forms of the vines without leafs and have a rising moon at sunset but looking east. With the fist two paintings, the emphasis was on the vineyards, so with this one, I wanted the emphasis to be on the sky. This painting was done only with a putty knife, a palette knife and brayers.
Andrew Weber, an accomplished oil and soft pastel painter with a BFA from the University of Arizona, is devoted to perceptual painting after years in publishing. His technique fuses impressionistic realism with abstraction, often balancing hard and soft edges and playing with light, form, and harmonies of color. He seeks subtle beauty in everyday subjects, using masterfully varied mark-making and color vibration to create images that are tranquil, contemplative, and suffused with a quiet, luminous peace.
