About this artwork
Landscape of Auvergne, France. View of my workshop.
In this work, I sought to capture the serene beauty of a moonrise over the mountains of Auvergne in autumn, that fleeting moment when the light of the moon begins to peek through the clouds, creating a striking contrast with the dark and mysterious tones of dusk.
The clouds are painted with broad brushstrokes, to give an impression of movement and lightness, as if they were in perpetual transformation… under the influence of lunar light.
The moon, the focal center of the composition, diffuses a soft light, while contrasting with the shadows of the surrounding clouds. This light creates a peaceful, almost dreamlike atmosphere, where the viewer can immerse themselves in the quiet beauty of a moment when nature prepares to give in to night. It is a celebration of the harmony between light and darkness, a tribute to the discreet but monumental splendor of the Auvergne landscapes.
« Each of my paintings bears witness to the moment when the unexpected beauty of light transforms a landscape and calls me to contemplate it. »
Anne Baudequin, a French landscape painter, inherited the inspiration of the 19th-century masters. Her work, born from outdoor observation, celebrates the poetry of simple subjects: paths, rivers, clouds over mountains...
She paints in oils alla prima, capturing light and atmosphere with vivid and spontaneous strokes, bringing her paintings to life.
Based in Auvergne, her studio overlooks the Loire Gorges, a volcanic landscape that she explores in all seasons.
The sea, another source of inspiration, nourishes her work, revealing the sublime in the ordinary. Her art goes beyond representation: an ode to nature, eternally renewed.
