About this artwork
Inspired by aerial views, satellite imagery, and the cosmos, this abstract, textural painting depicts an imagined space inspired by real life imagery. This particular part of our planet turns a vibrant shade of red every autumn, so you can look around you and see 51 square miles of this lush red carpet.
Because the environment has been her focus, Anne's thought has been to ask how aerial views change over time. Her assumption is the effects of… climate change would be most visible in looking at coastlines. It is her hope to revisit this series in several years, with new imagery and data that may unfortunately show the ravages of time.
Painting is done in shades of red, turquoise blue, and hints of other colours. Canvas is textured as well.
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
