About this artwork
This painting had been in progress when, one particular day, my kids came to the studio with me, since they had the day off from school. My son looked at this piece and said he liked the invisible mountain with all the debris stuck to it.
It's really not where I was going with the painting, but I loved the idea of an invisible mountain.
Though I paint with real brushes and paint on canvas most days, I also have a side project of digital paintings.… So this invisible area also had the feeling of a computer rendering of a mountain. Perhaps it was art imitating life. Invisible mountains though... :)
Aside from its light-hearted origins, this painting references our climate crisis. I love this painting for the feeling of majestic mountains, its colour, & beauty, but I don’t want our climate issues to get to the point where we have to live in a simulation – computer rendered nature.
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
