About this artwork
This piece was created in response to a call for work that spoke to the struggle and resilience of the human spirit when faced with Covid-19, and recent social upheaval.
As I was painting this piece, a Leonard Cohen song came to mind. The title is inspired by the lyrics of his song called Anthem, which took Cohen 10 years to write, and was recorded three times.
The title to this painting seemed appropriate to me in thinking about how humanity could… move forward in the face of such adversity as seen during Covid-19. If we look for a light in the darkness, we can often find it, and in recent times, the light has been much needed.
The painting is done in a vibrant dark blue, and green, with some metallic paint, and glass beads used as well. This dynamic, textured painting will appear differently depending on where the viewer is standing, or how the light hits.
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
