About this artwork
I wanted to capture the essence of tranquility and mystery that one feels when submerged in nature's depths. The play of light and shadow, the serene greens and blues, and the gentle blend of forms evoke a sense of calm and introspection. With each brushstroke, I sought to convey the soul's yearning for peace and the profound beauty of aquatic dreamscapes. This artwork is meant to be a portal into a world of ethereal contemplation, adding a soothing… and thoughtful energy to any space it graces.
I am endlessly fascinated by the unknown. What kinds of mysteries lay beneath the surface of the water if I roam freely amidst the greenery, coral, and other matter? How would it feel to dwell there, away from daily life?
This painting is also about layers, and memory --how one memory leads to the unearthing of others, like little treasures.
Aside from these ruminations, in this time where sea levels are rising, coastal cities are threatened. How much ends up underwater?
« I think art is a way in. It is an equalizer, no matter where you come from, or what language you speak. Now, more than ever, we must recognize that inter-connectedness. »
Anne Cherubim is an artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in several solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her works explore themes relating to the environment and stewardship of the planet. However, Cherubim is also fascinated by the essence of a place, rather than a perfect rendering. She favors bold acrylic colors in her creative process.
