In my work, I sought the interaction between the past and the present through a window overlooking the sea. The choice of black and white intensifies the nostalgia and the profound sense of continuity and transformation. The drops on the window are not just residues of rain, but tears of time, while the restlessness of the sea under Vesuvius reflects our own inner restlessness. This work evokes profound reflections and invites those who observe it… to lose their gaze beyond the horizon of the known.
The title “Mare Fuori” refers to a popular Italian television drama set in Naples. The plot follows the events of a group of boys detained in the Juvenile Penal Institute (IPM) in Naples, and the building seen in the photo is precisely the prison structure in which the protagonists' stories are set12. The series was filmed almost entirely in Naples, taking inspiration from the Nisida institute.
