About this artwork
This painting was designed for Singulart collection 'Flux', a celebration of dance through art and time. Professional dancer Shanna LeFleur once said, “It takes an athlete to dance, but an artist to be a dancer.” From Henri Matisse’s Fauvist interpretation of dance, to JR’s installation at the Lincoln Center created in collaboration with dancers from the New York City Ballet, visual artists have been inspired by dancers for centuries.
This piece… depicts the joy of a very specific type of dance, dancing on water. It was inspired by a longboarder gliding on a wave, crisscrossing all the way to the tip of her board, performing the sacred hang ten, then tapping the water with one tip of her foot. As with dancing, surfing is a balancing act which only a few can perform with grace and style, taking the surfing glide to the level of dancing on water.
« Colors and shapes flow like music out of my mind. They resonate with love, joy, peace, and self-acceptance. »
