About this artwork
Moe Moe was inspired by a Tahitian legend. The artist read the legend to her nephews while visiting the island in 2019. She copied the description of Moe's beauty at the bottom of the original sketch: 'Moe, Moe, tu es belle comme la fleur du gardénia, belle comme une cascade sous un ciel d'étoiles. Ton sourire est plus nécessaire à mes yeux que ne l'est le fruit frais à la gorge du voyageur.' She used these words and Gauguin's colors and patterns… as the inspiration for this piece. It is meant to exude tiare perfumes and Polynesian nonchalance.
« Colors and shapes flow like music out of my mind. They resonate with love, joy, peace, and self-acceptance. »
