About this artwork
In my flower paintings, I try to bring out the special characteristics of the blossoms. A particular challenge is translating the small blossoms to the size of the canvas.
Dahlia 'Rancho' is a beautiful water lily dahlia. It has large, vibrant blooms in a wonderful reddish-orange and brings elegance and warmth to the summer garden.
A dahlia consists of many petals stacked on top of each other, arranged simultaneously around the plant. In this… image, I was fascinated by the energetic glow of the flower. I placed it against a turquoise-blue background, which intensifies the glow. I also added neon accents to my colors. The paint was applied in several layers with a brush.
