The pain of women facing gender-based violence is what is depicted here. Fear and guilt merge with the anguish of an existence lived in solitude and silence; that is why her body seems to rest on air, on the intangible, as its only possible support.
The forced posture and intense back contraction, along with the use of the color blue —which refers both to Picasso's blue period and to the blues— evoke that vital,… deep and persistent pain, which is too often suffered in absolute solitude.
The figure, without defined features, represents all silenced women, an anonymous body embodying a collective pain. There is no defeat, only exhaustion after a silent struggle.
