About this artwork
This image represents a cool breeze, a refreshing sea mist that touches the skin, while the summer sun's rays simultaneously warm it. I used different shades of blue for this image, representing the varying depths of the sea and thus the depth of the water. The gold symbolizes the warmth of the sun, but also the beauty of the light rays as they touch the sea.
I painted this picture while going through a three-week period of subfebrile temperatures.… Subfebrile temperatures are not a fever, but they are not normal body temperatures either. They fluctuate between hot and cold—a hot fever versus cold chills. They strongly influenced my conception of this painting, which is why the work is titled 'Subfebrile Temperatures'.
