In ‘Storm’ I wanted to capture the chaos and beauty of an actual storm and at the same time create a visual of what an emotional one might look like. So I poured this sensation into a swirling dance of acrylic and oil colours alongside fragments mainly of animal and human photos.
The gestural unrefined strokes pulse with energy and symbolism when combined with the images of the collage pieces inviting you to experience this stormy feeling that often… has cathartic powers. This work is a snapshot of elements in flux that will electrify any space it inhabits.
'I paint because I believe that a kinder future begins in imagination.'
Athina Pappa is an artist with a Diploma in Architecture from the Democritus University of Thace in Greece and a Master’s in Visual Communication (majored in illustration) from Birmingham city University in the UK.
Her academic focus throughout her studies has been the notion of metaphor and visual symbolism. She has painted and drawn since she was three years old and she's been doing it professionally since 2013.
Her style is a vibrant blend of dream-pop symbolism and feminine spirituality, employing expressive layers of acrylics, oil pastels, and collage textures with influences from visionary art and sometimes art nouveau. Through both expressionistic and more meticulous techniques, she crafts works that evoke a sense of wonder, optimism, and the urgency for harmony between humanity and nature and the balancing of the male-female energy dipole.
