About this artwork
Bushmen of Southern Africa, sometimes known as the 1st people. This is because they have been in Africa since the time of the Neanderthals of Europe some 40,000 years ago. There are still some surviving today in parts of Botswana and Namibia . Hunters and gatherers just as they always been. . My sculpture depicts their deep spirituality, their family values and even their sense of fun. These characteristics are evident in their abundant cave paintings…
scattered around Africa . One can describe them as the first artists. their cave paintings have been compared to the religious paintings of the renaissances. After a successful hunt they would re-enact the hunt to give thanks to their prey that give its life so they could eat and to the higher power they believed in . Also of course to entertain the family after the meal . The figure is posing as the prey using the wildebeest skull as a prop and is fleeing from the hunters
