About this artwork
“I Am She Me explores identity as something fluid, constructed, and constantly negotiated. The face is fragmented—neither fully masculine nor feminine, neither fixed nor resolved—existing somewhere in between states of being.
Layers of colour, distortion, and text act as traces of internal dialogue: voices absorbed over time, expectations imposed, and the quiet resistance to them. The work reflects a tension between how we see ourselves and how… we are seen by others.
Rather than offering a clear answer, the piece holds that ambiguity—inviting the viewer to confront their own assumptions about identity, truth, and self.”

Benzane, trained in Visual Communication in Sydney, works across digital mediums including, photography, illustration, typography, and manipulation; to create poetic visual narratives shaped by more than two decades of visual storytelling. His practice layers imagery and text into richly constructed compositions where photography, language, and symbolic form merge into a singular visual voice.
Balancing raw emotion with structured design, Benzane’s works evoke a haunting, introspective beauty. Through this layered approach he explores themes of transformation, identity, and reinvention, revealing the quiet complexities and emotional landscapes that shape the human experience.
