About this artwork
Three geisha in all their finery. They have elaborate, time consuming hairstyles and beautiful kimono - 3 of them one on top of the other - the wide "belt" is called an obi - the obi can be worn in many different ways.
The make-up they wear is typical of the geisha - all white with just a tiny patch on the back of the neck left in the natural skin color. The lips are made smaller than the natural shape and a bit of red is put into the corner of the… eye - for effect.
The geisha is (or rather mostly was) entertaining guests at dinner parties - they were skilled in dancing, singing and conversation and many could play an instrument .
The background of the painting is made with a mix of gold and silver acrylic paint - and the hairdo is made with glossy black paint to resemble the fantastic glossy hair of the geisha.
The painting has a small symbol on the front and is signed on the back.
The sides of the canvas are painted so no frame is needed.
