About this artwork
ROXAN belongs to the series of my HEADS, which are almost disembodied structures, oscillating between abstraction and figuration, which emerge from a tangle of lines or painterly forms and only become perceptible as head shapes on closer inspection. ROXAN is an imaginary being, tender, strong, hurt and self-confident at the same time.
Drawn with charcoal, graphite and ink on a chalk ground, which also allows for layering and depth in the drawing.

« The pictures are my counterpart, my thoughts, my excitement, and my answers. Since there are always new questions, there are always new answers. »
Berit Opelt is an award-winning painter and printmaker based in Germany whose works have been widely exhibited nationally. In addition, her art has been featured in publications such as Abendzeitung and Süddeutschezeitung. Opelt finds inspiration in nature, in the structure of rock, leaves, and bark, as well as in the wings of insects and birds. Her multilayered composiitons are both an expression of the experimental process and a synonym for antithetical constellations.
