About this artwork
I want to share this commissioned artwork. I know, it is not for sale, but it shows what these paintings can look like size wise. For now I show it in the studio. with me next to it. It has to dry and I hope to be able to show it on its destiny, in the house of the owner soon...
I started to paint flowers about 9 years ago. Inspired by the watercolours of Emil Nolde, the Dutch Baroque still lives and the flower paintings by Manet. Sometimes I am… like a magpie, I love shiny and brilliant things. Flowers give me the motive to push the colours to the edge. First I painted in gouache on paper and fantasy, later I moved to oil on canvas and ended painting mostly irises. I especially love these flowers because of their weird shape...This is one of my bigger paintings. It makes the image more 'abstract'.

Bert Van Zelm is a talented Dutch artist who has participated in exhibitions and residencies in Italy, the Netherlands, US and UK.
