About this artwork
The artwork is painted on discarded flattened packaging, as part of my ongoing “Recycled Painting” practice, in which I transform discarded packaging and waste paper into surfaces for painting. By working on found packaging and waste paper, I connect personal emotions with broader ideas about waste, value, visibility, and what society chooses to overlook or discard. The visible folds and structure of the discarded packaging remain part of the artwork,… preserving the memory of the material and its previous life.
This piece bursts with raw emotion through bold red lips and piercing green eyes, capturing the tension between silence and expression. Using acrylic, I layered expressionistic strokes and surreal shapes to symbolize inner conflict and duality.
Plexi frame: The artwork is placed between 2 Plexi panels & fixed with 4 metal knobs. It includes a hook on the back, ready to hang.

Bita Masoumi is a painter and visual artist with roots in Iran and training in both painting and graphic design, now based in California. She pioneers "Recycled Painting," transforming discarded food packaging into emotionally charged compositions using acrylic, marker, pen, and pastel, while her style moves fluidly between expressionism, surrealism, and raw figuration. Her art radiates vulnerability, protest, and longing, inviting the viewer to recognize the beauty and value that persist in what is forgotten or cast aside.
