About this artwork
The composition balances openness and restriction: while the vast water-like surface evokes freedom, the linear pattern introduces… a sense of limitation and separation. The figure, suspended and weightless, exists between these two states — drifting, yet contained.
Layered acrylic textures and expressive lines create depth and movement, while the contrast between the small human presence and the large surrounding space amplifies the emotional tension of solitude.
The edges of the canvas are fully painted, allowing the work to exist as a complete object without the need for framing.

Shiptenko’s work explores the relationship between people and the urban environment — architecture, streets, cafés, and the everyday rhythm of city life. His distinctive style combines expressive watercolor and dynamic multi-figure compositions, capturing both the energy of crowds and moments of quiet solitude.
A central part of his practice is the long-term series People on the White, which reflects on contemporary urban society, human routines and overconsumption set against minimalist white backgrounds. Bogdan Shiptenko has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, his works are held in private collections worldwide.
