Created with a monochrome palette and masterful brush technique, the composition features scattered groups of people—walking, talking, sitting, observing—each engaged in their own moment of presence. Together, they form a harmonious crowd without noise, a city that seems to listen more than it speaks.
This figurative artwork is set against the… soft architectural outlines of Prague, including the iconic twin towers of the Church of Our Lady before Týn. Yet, despite the iconic setting, the focus is not on the buildings but on the people—tourists, locals, cyclists, dog walkers, and lovers—who embody the heartbeat of the city. Some walk alone, some pause mid-conversation, others simply observe. The use of ink-like watercolor washes gives the painting a graphic, almost cinematic stillness.

Bogdan Shiptenko is a contemporary Ukrainian artist born in 1994 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He works primarily with watercolor, acrylic, and graphic media, focusing on figurative painting and urban themes. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and has over 15 years of professional artistic practice, with more than 10 years of international sales.
Shiptenko’s work explores the relationship between people and the urban environment — architecture, streets, cafés, and the everyday rhythm of city life. His distinctive style combines expressive watercolor and dynamic multi-figure compositions, capturing both the energy of crowds and moments of quiet solitude.
A central part of his practice is the long-term series People on the White, which reflects on contemporary urban society, human routines and overconsumption set against minimalist white backgrounds. Bogdan Shiptenko has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, his works are held in private collections worldwide.
