About this artwork
During the Soviet era, Kryvyi Rih's quarries became one of the largest iron ore quarries in the world, which provided a significant contribution to the economy. At that time, a large number of new railroad lines, factories, and machine-building enterprises were built.
I dedicated this painting to the machines of Kryvyi Rih Quarries.
Since I live not far from the quarry, I see it often.
This is one of the new paintings in the series about Kryvyi Rih… Quarries, because my first acquaintance with the quarry was in 2018, when I had to paint 8 panoramic paintings with landscapes of a granite quarry located outside the city. At that time, I went to the granite quarry to take a photo and draw a sketch from nature. At that time, I discovered acrylics from a new perspective, I really liked to paint with lyners, acrylics on wet, because it gave a watercolor effect. So this painting is dedicated to the quarries, namely transportation and the people who work there.
Bogdan Shiptenko is a contemporary Ukrainian artist born in 1994 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He works primarily with watercolor, acrylic, and graphic media, focusing on figurative painting and urban themes. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and has over 15 years of professional artistic practice, with more than 10 years of international sales.
Shiptenko’s work explores the relationship between people and the urban environment — architecture, streets, cafés, and the everyday rhythm of city life. His distinctive style combines expressive watercolor and dynamic multi-figure compositions, capturing both the energy of crowds and moments of quiet solitude.
A central part of his practice is the long-term series People on the White, which reflects on contemporary urban society, human routines and overconsumption set against minimalist white backgrounds. Bogdan Shiptenko has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, his works are held in private collections worldwide.
