About this artwork
This work began with a plant many people call a weed — yet few plants tell such a complete story of transformation.
The dandelion begins hidden in darkness as a seed, roots itself in the earth, rises green, opens into a bright yellow sun, then becomes a pale moon-like sphere before releasing its delicate umbrella seeds into the air.
It is sometimes said to be the only plant that holds earth, sun, moon and flight within one life cycle.
Captured… through Botanica Lumen’s ultra-high-resolution scannography process, Dandelion Journey preserves each stage against a deep black field — transforming a familiar wild plant into a quiet meditation on growth, letting go, and beginning again.
Botanica Lumen is the collaborative studio of Anna Surdacka and Luis Fernandez, bringing together botanical artistry, optical imaging, and material precision. Anna’s instinct for living form and natural composition meets Luis’s background in optics, physics, and ultra-high-resolution imaging, shaped through years developing industrial scanning systems.
Together, they created an original scannographic practice that captures real botanical specimens with extraordinary clarity, tonal depth, and presence. Working against deep black fields, their pieces move beyond vintage botanical illustration, traditional photography, or decorative printmaking, revealing nature as something immersive, architectural, and unexpectedly powerful.
Designed to be admired from afar and discovered up close, each Botanica Lumen work is created as a museum-grade photographic object, built to live with presence for generations.
