About this artwork
This painting, oil on canvas with chalcopyrite and blue calcite came out of an extraordinary experience of watching a huge polar or ice bear shaking off excess water as he came ashore on a small island right in front of me while I was on trip circumnavigating the northern archipelago of Svalbard. It remains one of those moments of complete awe, where one is outside of time and in a place of complete wonder. The beauty and presence of this bear…
has always stayed with me. The colour of this work speaks to the 6th/third eye and the 5th/ throat chakras.... intuition and communication. Chalcopyrite helps increase perception while protecting and the blue calcite calms both mind and emotions. The impasto and the brush work create the motion of the shaking and the general vibration of the painting is one of calm, centeredness, and of pure power in such a presence.
