About this artwork
My travels have often taken me to Venice and Trieste. In Trieste, I photographed this house wall and then imagined the Venetian figures appearing at a window. I often see people in the distance and think to myself that I'll probably never meet them, and so I create my own ideas about who the people are, how they're doing, and what they're doing. It's a romantic image, in this case.
Carl Röhrig, trained at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Munich, works primarily with acrylic and oil paintings on canvas. Using his special relief technique, he creates fantastical naturalism where depth of detail is paramount. Influenced by Max Ernst and the Surrealists, Röhrig's art explores nature, the environment, and endangered animals in a hyperrealistic way to highlight the beauty of our world. His work radiates joie de vivre and invites individual spirituality.
