About this artwork
This painting was created for an exhibition in Andermatt in December 2019. Initially, I planned to paint a completely normal winter landscape, without any alienation, but then my brush wanted to conjure a face into the snow. Later, it became an opening into space. Perhaps this painting is interesting because it shows two worlds: the world of space and the world of snow, and they are actually like a shell around us. When you stand in the snow under… a blue sky, you can't even imagine that there's a universe out there, with all its light and darkness.
Carl Röhrig, trained at the Academy of Graphic Arts in Munich, works primarily with acrylic and oil paintings on canvas. Using his special relief technique, he creates fantastical naturalism where depth of detail is paramount. Influenced by Max Ernst and the Surrealists, Röhrig's art explores nature, the environment, and endangered animals in a hyperrealistic way to highlight the beauty of our world. His work radiates joie de vivre and invites individual spirituality.
