On her childhood tricycle, the nun moves forward, lightly, pulling behind her a pumpkin that has become a trailer. Weight is not a burden: it nourishes her path. Within the pumpkin, each character tells a facet of existence. The driver leads the way, indicating the direction, accompanied by benevolent angels. The flower clown embodies poetry and tenderness, while the black and white clown reminds us that life is never completely clear or dark, made… of infinite nuances. The bishop evokes a spirituality that is oriented, framed, and thoughtful. The scarecrow, far from inspiring fear, becomes a refuge and a dream, and the sailor represents escape, elsewhere, and love. Thus, this improbable procession becomes an inner journey: each symbol is a part of ourselves, and together, they compose the richness and complexity of life.
Carole Perret primarily uses tempera on wood, a legacy of extensive training at the School of Applied Arts in Bienne and 40 years of advertising illustration. She adopts a figurative, naive, and precise approach, inspired by the Quattrocento, where symbolism, humor, and vibrant colors tell life stories. Through her mischievous little nuns, harlequins, and circus performers, she questions the harmony between appearance and inner being. Her works exude a childlike joy, a mischievous smile, and invite each of us to question our own inner freedoms.
