This large fish, mechanically wound and mounted on wheels, becomes an improbable vessel, a traveling ship. On board, a young couple guided by a nun, under the benevolent protection of the angel of love: thanks to his buoy, he reminds us that love never sinks. At the front, another nun baits the fish to give it direction, while at the back, a saucepan, suspended from the tail, contains reserves of bait and the keys to knowledge. In the bowels of the… mechanism, a sailor activates the movement, allowing this strange cruise to move forward. The work speaks to us of the journey through life: a fragile, sometimes absurd, path where everyone plays their part. And yet, beyond the cogs and detours, remains that essential engine: love, indestructible and floating, which always leads us towards the horizon.
Carole Perret primarily uses tempera on wood, a legacy of extensive training at the School of Applied Arts in Bienne and 40 years of advertising illustration. She adopts a figurative, naive, and precise approach, inspired by the Quattrocento, where symbolism, humor, and vibrant colors tell life stories. Through her mischievous little nuns, harlequins, and circus performers, she questions the harmony between appearance and inner being. Her works exude a childlike joy, a mischievous smile, and invite each of us to question our own inner freedoms.
