Three traditional fisherman on the Teign Estuary in Devon tying up their catch of Salmon. The artist has focused on the vibrant colour of the luminous green bag with the wide range of intense blues that fill the painting on this sunny evening. The calm waters are agitated by a breeze which create striations across the composition, contrasting with the offset triangular structure of the men.

Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
