About this artwork
This work is a cardboard collage on paper, with pastel and gouache, illustrating the last sentence of Zola's novel:
"What did it matter how many victims the machine crushed along the way! Didn't it still press on, heedless of the bloodshed? Driverless, in the midst of darkness, like a blind and deaf beast unleashed upon death, it rolled on, loaded with cannon fodder, with soldiers, already dazed with fatigue and drunk, who sang" (E. Zola). In this… work, I wanted to capture the train's uncontrollable runaway with a naive and expressive style. The vibrant brushstrokes reveal the tension and energy of a train, symbolizing both strength and fragility. This bold blend of comics and expressionism brings a unique dynamic that will animate each space with a vibrant and contrasting energy.
Christian Delavelle: Painter of the ephemeral and the imaginary. Through his canvases, Christian Delavelle captures the essence of transparency, light, and movement. His pictorial language, bordering on the figurative, invites the viewer on a journey where reality and dream intertwine. Each work is a window onto rare moments, silent encounters between living beings and the natural elements: a tree conversing with a comet in the night, a train emerging from the fog, a sailor defying a breaking wave, a galloping horse springing from the invisible, or the gaze of a bird contemplating the lagoon at dusk. His art, both poetic and powerful, celebrates lightness and pure emotion, transforming each canvas into a unique sensory experience. Cote Akoun 2025: €600 (standard format 65 x 50 cm)
