About this artwork
The Four Faces of God presents a fourfold vision of power held in relation. The lion, human, ox, and eagle emerge from a shared field, drawing from the ancient tetramorph: courage, conscience, endurance, and vision. None stands alone. Each is shaped through relation to the others.
Echoes of red, white, and blue move through the surface not as emblem, but as lived material, balancing strength, mercy, labor, and foresight. The composition resists… hierarchy. Authority appears as relational, distributed, and under tension.
Presented within a diplomatic context, the work reflects on leadership shaped by plurality rather than dominance. It suggests that vision requires humility, strength remains incomplete without compassion, and endurance depends upon imagination.
This is not a settled image, but a held one:
a meditation on covenant, integration, and the fragile work of remaining human within power.
Christopher Lee Chang is a Canadian painter, writer, and founder of the Art Research Institute. Anchored by the question, "What happens when imagination is taken seriously?", his practice investigates the symbolic architecture of the human soul. Drawing on trauma-informed therapy, attachment theory, and archetypal psychology, his work spans from executive coaching to mythopoetic oil paintings like A Stranger at the Gate and Archetypal Complex. His Four Faces of God, recently selected for display at the U.S. Ambassador to Canada’s residence, functions as "visual midrash"—contemplative thresholds that invite profound moral and relational reorientation. This June, he extends his inquiry into the literary sphere with The Book of Reflection: Love as Seeing. Bridging psychological science, Kabbalistic wisdom, and relationship psychology, the book introduces "The Love Equation"—Reflection, Devotion, and Sovereignty—to help readers break unconscious patterns and building conscious intimacy.
