About this artwork
There's a hush in the blue depths of "Distorted Identities"-a sense of standing at the edge of your own reflection, not quite sure if you're looking in or out. The shapes shift and settle, like thoughts you almost remember, and the light moves across the surface in a way that feels both comforting and elusive. It's the feeling of being many things at once: certain and uncertain, bold and quietly searching.
Have you ever felt a quiet ache you couldn’t… quite name? “Distorted Identities” is my attempt to capture that sensation - the gentle tension between who we are and who we’re still becoming. The blues and shifting shapes are a mirror for all the stories we have told as well as the unfinished stories we carry within us.
Danette Newton, a seasoned artist armed with oil paints and acrylics, originates from a modest background. Her vibrant, geometric designs are interlaced with abstract, figural landscapes, produced free-hand demonstrating the beauty in natural imperfections. Newton’s creations are a dynamic exploration of color relationships, and an empathetic ode to the perfectly flawed human condition.
