In this ballpoint pen work, I continue my process of developing a visual order from random splashes of color. Folding the paper creates a symmetrical starting form, initially defined purely by chance. In a second step, I begin to work out structures, lines, and areas of density with the ballpoint pen.
What interests me most is the moment when the chaos intensifies and a kind of inner logic becomes visible. Forms begin to repeat themselves, to mirror… each other, and to communicate with one another. Structures emerge that are reminiscent of organic forms or unknown beings, without being clearly defined.
I consciously navigate between control and letting go: chance dictates the direction, while I create density, weight, and focus through drawing. For me, the work demonstrates how a concentrated, almost tangible presence can emerge from disorder.
Daniel Zwimpfer works primarily with ballpoint pen on paper and has a solid background in design and art. His technique is characterized by a minimalist black-and-white aesthetic, precise lines, and richly detailed three-dimensionality, with his works existing between illustration and fine art. He creates compelling portraits and abstract compositions whose emotional range extends from social reflection to meditative introspection, thus conveying intense impressions and a lingering sense of anticipation.
