About this artwork
Center of Gravity I forms the origin of this series and establishes its visual language.
The work emerges from the dialogue between warm earth pigments and cool blue tones reminiscent of Mediterranean light. Large, tranquil areas of color create space for subtle transitions and establish a rhythm of openness and density. At the center – slightly offset – lies a dark point, the gravitational center of the image.
This small, dense core interrupts… the harmony just enough to ground and focus the composition. It acts like a quiet pulse within the color space: unobtrusive, yet essential.
“Center of Gravity I” is a work about the balance of intuition and structure, of movement and stillness.
It is the starting point of the series – the first impulse, the first “moment of gravity”.

Daria Startseva is a painter with a background in graphic design, trained in Vienna and Helsinki, and, after a career as an art director, devoted herself entirely to art in Zurich. She uses layered oil, acrylic, and mixed media, moving between poetic abstraction and reduced figuration, and experimenting with various media. In her rhythmic, intuitive compositions, she uses color as a vehicle of emotion, making the fleeting visible and the invisible tangible. Her works invite the viewer to intensely experience silent emotions and visual presence.
