In this diptych, I work with two mirrored spaces, where the eye is drawn from the gap between the two pieces outwards, while the black lines that make up the box restart the visual process, guiding the viewer through the different spaces within the artwork's margins. In both pieces, I propose spaces for discovery and calm, creating relationships between the walls that act as a background and the blackboards that allow for pause and reflection.
These… pieces work best when hung together with a separation of between 15 and 20 centimeters, allowing the visual journey to restart and our gaze to end where it began, on the wall that supports the painting.
David San Francisco, PhD in Fine Arts, primarily uses oil, acrylic, resins, waxes, colored pencils, and metals, merging his academic and teaching background with his artistic practice. His technique explores ambiguous abstraction, employing the subtraction and addition of materials to create geometric compositions that engage the viewer, inviting them to assign personal meaning to each work. His paintings evoke an emotional and cognitive transformation, prompting a continuous reinterpretation and renewal of the viewer's visual memory.
