About this artwork
In this small experimental piece, I employ the juxtaposition of planes characteristic of my work, contrasting a lean space that forms a wall with a rich, oily space filled with oxides obtained through the treatment of pigments. This surface is covered with loose graphic marks that create a chalkboard, inviting the viewer to discover what has been explained there, with the twist that these are graphic marks without language, allowing each of us to… interpret them based on our own experience. Both spaces are linked by copper and aluminum foil, generating a visual path that guides the gaze and distributes visual tension.
David San Francisco, PhD in Fine Arts, primarily uses oil, acrylic, resins, waxes, colored pencils, and metals, merging his academic and teaching background with his artistic practice. His technique explores ambiguous abstraction, employing the subtraction and addition of materials to create geometric compositions that engage the viewer, inviting them to assign personal meaning to each work. His paintings evoke an emotional and cognitive transformation, prompting a continuous reinterpretation and renewal of the viewer's visual memory.
