About this artwork
Painted in a soft pointillist style, My Wedding Day portrays the meeting of two worlds Korea and Brazil.
The artist chose the pointillist technique because it allows light to be expressed delicately and vividly.
and, just as countless dots of color come together to form one image, different cultures and emotions blend naturally within the work.
At the center stands a woman in hanbok, a reflection of the artist herself, surrounded by symbols from… both her homeland and her new life abroad. A tiger and a magpie from Korean Hojakdo paintings, a toucan from the Brazilian forest, and a Baiana.
Each figure carries its own meaning
the tiger as a guardian of courage,
the magpie as a messenger of hope, connection,
and the toucan and Baiana as symbols of this new land.
Through warm tones and luminous colors,
the painting celebrates love, migration, and the harmonious coexistence of two cultures, a reminder that light is born where differences meet.
Daye Park is a South Korean painter with BFA and MFA degrees from Kyung Hee University, working primarily in oil pastel, watercolor, and mixed media reliefs. She masterfully combines traditional Korean painting techniques and folk symbolism with radiant Brazilian influences, sculpting tactile, semi-three-dimensional surfaces using clay accents. Her distinctive style celebrates the merging of two cultures, luminous color, and poetic softness. Park’s art is a heartfelt exploration of migration, longing, and connection; her works radiate warmth, love, and the tender courage to remain true to oneself across distances.
