About this artwork
This work was inspired by the many masks we wear throughout life and the tension between our outward identity and inner self. Drawing from influences that range from tribal symbolism and folk traditions to contemporary expressionism, I wanted to create a face that feels both ancient and modern, familiar and mysterious.
I hope viewers pause long enough to see a part of themselves reflected in it. The direct gaze invites questions about identity,… perception, and authenticity. Is this a mask, a portrait, or a mirror?
I chose acrylic for its ability to produce bold, saturated color and crisp graphic lines. The stylized portrait format allows emotion and symbolism to take precedence over realism. The simplified forms, vibrant palette, and expressive contours create a visual language that is immediate, playful, and psychologically charged, encouraging multiple interpretations rather than a single narrative.
