About this artwork
This painting is inspired by the 1883 painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, "The Wave" which hangs at the Repository Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN.
The power of the ocean always impresses. The movement and strength of Renoir's masterpiece captures my attention, and his impressionistic way of optically mixing every color in the crayon box, challenged me to do the same in a classically real style through glazing. I hope you feel drawn into… the depths of this translucent turmoil like I do. Can you feel the sea spray and smell the salt air?
My painting is framed to 21" x 25"
Debra Keirce, a painter and drawer with a background in biochemical engineering, masterfully works in oils and charcoal, drawing from rigorous classical training. She employs layered, tightly rendered traditional realism—often achieved through indirect techniques reminiscent of the Dutch Masters—across genres from photorealistic still lifes and marine art to portraits and fantastical beasts. Her artworks invite viewers into immersive narratives, evoking warm memories, wonder, and joy, aiming always to resonate with emotion and contribute positively to the well-being of those who experience her art.
