About this artwork
Taken from the series "Liberdade" in the fashion art book "NITA: An Impossible Dream". Shot in Brazil.
*printed in Paris on Hanhemuehle 300g fine art paper
I once climbed to the top of Dois Irmãos, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. After making it up the favelas on the back of scooters, through the streets of laughter and scattered gunfire between military and drug traffickers, after climbing an hour through the mountains... The top offered us a view… of Rio that only birds are used to.
I started to watch them and their movements, how they don't even flap their wings - they simply glide through the sky and, with each passing, a strong vibration comes over your body, from the strength of the birds' wings cutting through the air.
I realized in that moment, that a bird is so free, when placed in even the biggest mansion, it will go crazy. I have felt this way, and have always had the urge to see a black body, in all its beauty and experiencing true freedom.
